NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma women’s golf team is in third place at the 18-team Golfweek Conference Challenge after shooting a second-round 300 (+12) Tuesday at the par-72 Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo. Three Sooners are in the top-10 with one round remaining.
The Sooners entered the day in a tie for first place but now trail Pepperdine by 10 strokes and second-place UC Davis by nine strokes. OU is 10 shots clear of fourth-place Mississippi.
Junior Anne-Catherine Tanguay led OU by shooting a 1-over 73, which moved her into third place out of 90 competitors. Her 36-hole 142 (-2) has her four shots behind leader Demi Runas of UC Davis.
Junior Emily Collins experienced a slow start with two bogeys and two double bogeys over the first 10 holes, but found her rhythm down the stretch. She played the last eight holes at 4 under par and finished the round with a 74 (+2), good for eighth place.
Reigning NCAA champion Chirapat Jao-Javanil entered the day with the individual lead but fell to a fourth-place tie after her 75 (+3). The junior registered three birdies but also carded six bogeys. Jao-Javanil played the last seven holes at 2 under par and is at 1 under for the tournament.
Jade Staggs, another junior, improved upon her first-round score by one stroke, finishing the day with a 6-over (78). Her 36-hole total of 157 (+3) has her in a tie for 58th place.
Taylor Schmidt, OU’s lone senior in the event, shot an 83 (+11) and fell into a tie for 75th place.
Kaitlyn Rhorback, competing as an individual, carded a 75 (+3) in the second round. The junior finished the day in a tie for 16th place with a 36-hole total of 147 (+3).
