Texas Tech transfer who became an unbeaten bullpen weapon

James "Jamie" Hitt is a left-hander from Concordia Lutheran High School in Magnolia, Texas. There he was a first-team all-state pick, posted a 0.21 ERA as a senior and also batted .350 with 22 stolen bases. He began college at Texas Tech, where he made the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team, then transferred to Oklahoma in July 2022.

Hitt gave the Sooners three seasons and several roles. In 2023 he went 6–2 with a 4.89 ERA in 70 innings, making 12 starts. In 2024 he made the Big 12 All-Academic First Team and struck out a career-best 10 against Nebraska in his first start of the season. In 2025 he became a workhorse reliever: 28 appearances (second most on the staff), a 3.82 ERA and a perfect 3–0 record. That included three hitless innings for a Bedlam win at Oklahoma State and four scoreless innings to beat Kentucky in the SEC Tournament.

The San Diego Padres drafted him in the eighth round (250th overall) in 2025. In 2026 he moved quickly through the system, from High-A Lake Elsinore to Fort Wayne and then to Double-A San Antonio in July.

As of October 8, 2026, Hitt is a left-handed pitcher in the Padres organization.
