McLoud's top prospect who reached Fenway after five years in the minors

Wyatt Olds was born in Oklahoma City and was the top-rated high school prospect in Oklahoma in 2018, earning all-state honors at McLoud High School before committing to OU.

As a freshman in 2019 he made a team-high 31 relief appearances, tied for the Big 12 lead, with 23 scoreless outings. He made the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. In the shortened 2020 season he moved into a bigger role and went 4–0 with a 1.89 ERA, striking out 29 in 19 innings. In his first career start, against Illinois State, he struck out nine in six innings and allowed just one hit.

The Boston Red Sox drafted him in the seventh round (196th overall) in 2021. He was mostly a starter in 2022, then moved primarily to the bullpen by 2024, splitting 2024 and 2025 between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester.

In 2026 he had five saves and 74 strikeouts in 39 relief appearances for Worcester. On August 17 the Red Sox added him to the 40-man roster, and he made his major league debut that night at Fenway Park, closing out an 11–1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks and striking out the first two batters he faced. He posted a 1.15 ERA in 14 big league games and was recalled to Boston on September 27. As of October 9, 2026, he is a pitcher in the Red Sox organization.
