The Sooner who came home to the Thunder
Otega Oweh is from New Jersey. He played at Rutgers Prep and then Blair Academy, won a 17U Peach Jam title with Team Final and committed to Oklahoma as a four-star recruit.
After playing sparingly as a freshman in 2022–23, Oweh broke out as a sophomore. He started 28 games and averaged 11.4 points and 3.8 rebounds. He then transferred to Kentucky, where he blossomed into a two-time second-team All-SEC guard. In 2024–25 he averaged 16.2 points. In 2025–26 he averaged 18.6 points and scored 35, including a buzzer-beating three to force overtime, in an NCAA Tournament win over Santa Clara. He finished with 1,255 points at Kentucky and was the fastest player in school history to reach 1,000.
The Miami Heat selected him 41st overall in the 2026 NBA draft and immediately traded him to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Oweh signed a two-way contract, which splits his time between the Thunder and their G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue.
As of October 8, 2026, Oweh is on a two-way contract with the Thunder, just down the road from Norman.
