From Waco to Barcelona by way of Norman

Umoja Gibson grew up in Waco, Texas, and played at University High School before starting his college career at North Texas. In three seasons there (2017–2020) he became a reliable scorer, averaging 14.5 points as a junior and making second-team All-Conference USA in 2020.

He transferred to Oklahoma for 2020–21 and 2021–22. Gibson shot 41.1 percent from three in his first Sooner season and averaged 13.3 points in his second, before finishing his college career at DePaul in 2022–23, where he averaged 15.8 points and 4.7 assists.

Gibson turned pro with BG Göttingen in Germany's Basketball Bundesliga in 2023–24, then played for Spartak Subotica in the ABA League. His breakout came in 2025–26 with Slovenian club Cedevita Olimpija, where he led the team in points (16.3), assists (4.7) and efficiency in the EuroCup regular season.

That season earned him a big step up. On July 16, 2026, Gibson signed a two-year deal with FC Barcelona of Spain's Liga ACB and the EuroLeague. As of October 8, 2026, he is a point guard for Barcelona.
