Brian Asamoah II
Linebacker · Atlanta Falcons · practice squad · OU 2018-2021
Columbus-raised linebacker who led the 2020 Sooners in tackles
Brian Asamoah II was born in Newark, New Jersey, to a Ghanaian family and raised in Columbus, Ohio, where he played linebacker and running back at St. Francis DeSales High School.
He arrived at Oklahoma in 2018, redshirted, and steadily became a defensive leader. In 2019 he made 23 tackles with two sacks. In 2020 he led the Sooners with 66 tackles, adding two sacks and an interception in nine starts. As a junior in 2021 he started 10 of 12 games, posted 90 tackles and two forced fumbles, and earned second-team All-Big 12 honors before opting out of the Alamo Bowl to prepare for the draft.
The Minnesota Vikings selected him in the third round (66th overall) of the 2022 NFL draft, and he spent 2022–2024 in Minnesota. His path since has been a winding one: stints with the Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders in 2025, time with the Cincinnati Bengals, and then a move to Atlanta. On September 30, 2026, he signed with the Falcons' practice squad, where he is as of October 8, 2026.
Speed and energy have always been his calling cards, and he keeps grinding for his next big opportunity.
