Carl McAdams

1966 · Round 3 · Pick 22 · LB · New York Jets (AFL)

Carl McAdams was born in Dumas, Texas, and played at White Deer High School. At Oklahoma he was first-team All-Big Eight in 1964 and 1965, a first-team All-American in 1964, and a consensus All-American in 1965. In 1966 he was drafted by both leagues: eighth overall by the NFL's St. Louis Cardinals and in the third round, 22nd overall, by the AFL's New York Jets. He signed with the Jets, and his contract was then the largest ever for a lineman. He played linebacker for New York from 1967 to 1969 and was part of the 1968 team that won the AFL title and Super Bowl III. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on November 30, 1965 (NewsBank page 45): "Linebacker McAdams, frequently spotted in action at Lincoln and credited with giving the Sooners a strong spiritual lift against the three-touchdown favorites, was involved in some of the luncheon's lighter moments."
