Corey Mayfield
1992 · Round 10 · Pick 269 · DE · San Francisco 49ers
Corey Mayfield was born in Tyler, Texas, and played at Lee High School. He was a three-year starter on the defensive line at Oklahoma, with 12 sacks and 88 tackles. San Francisco drafted him in the 10th round, 269th overall, in 1992. He also played for Tampa Bay and Jacksonville, then had a long Arena Football League career with Grand Rapids (the 2001 ArenaBowl champions), Orlando, Philadelphia and Dallas. He moved into coaching, and his Wikipedia infobox lists him as head coach of the Beaumont Renegades. His son, Corey Mayfield Jr., signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Oklahoman wrote on August 28, 1991, that he was a senior "out of Tyler, Texas Lee." The Tulsa World wrote on December 21, 1991: "Mayfield was one of four OU players suspended from the team for the final two games of the 1989 season after Norman police stopped their car and found open beer cans and a stolen set of door-trim panels from a late-model automobile."
