Dave Hudgens

1978 · Round 3 · Pick 84 · T · Dallas Cowboys

Dave Hudgens was born in San Diego and played at Will Rogers High School. At Oklahoma he won the Big Eight shot put title in 1975. He played defensive tackle on the 1974 and 1975 national title teams and was considered the strongest player on the team as a senior, when he made 37 tackles. Dallas drafted him in the third round, 84th overall, in 1978, planning to move him to offensive line, but he hurt his knee in training camp and spent the year on injured reserve. The Cowboys waived him in August 1979. Pro Football Reference has no player page for him. SoonerStats lists him on OU's roster for 1974 SO DT, 1975 SO DT, 1976 JR DL, 1977 SR DL. His listed size in 1977 was 6-5, 235 lb. SoonerStats gives his full name as David Hudgens. It gives his hometown as Tulsa, OK and his high school as Rogers. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on May 2, 1978 (NewsBank page 13): "Among the other possibilities at OU are defensive tackle David Hudgens, defensive backs Zac Henderson and Terry Peters and offensive lineman Karl Baldischwiler."
