Durwood Keeton
1974 · Round 4 · Pick 85 · DB · St. Louis Cardinals
Durwood Keeton was born in Bonham, Texas, and played at Bonham High School. He played at Navarro College (1970–1971), then at Oklahoma (1972–1973), where he was All-Big Eight and played in the Blue–Gray and Senior Bowl games. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted him in the fourth round, 85th overall, in 1974, but he played that season for the World Football League's Southern California Sun, returning an interception for a touchdown. He played 12 games for New England in 1975 and was taken by Tampa Bay in the 1976 expansion draft but released. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on January 30, 1974 (NewsBank page 13): "Durwood Keeton was the first OU player to be selected." The same article says: "Keeton was a fourth round pick of St. Louis; and Baccus and Powers were fifth-round choices."
