Eddie Hinton

1969 · Round 1 · Pick 25 · WR · Baltimore Colts

Eddie Hinton was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, and took up sports in fifth grade to escape a difficult home life. At Lawton High School he was all-state at halfback, started on the state runner-up basketball team, and won a state hurdles title. He played halfback and defensive back at Oklahoma, was first-team All-Big Eight and a third-team All-American in 1968, and helped charter OU's Alpha Phi Alpha chapter. The Baltimore Colts drafted him in the first round, 25th overall, in 1969, and he won Super Bowl V with them. He later played for Houston and New England, finishing with 111 catches for 1,822 yards. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on January 29, 1969 (NewsBank page 9): "That prophecy became a reality Tuesday night when Hinton was drafted by the National Football League champion Baltimore Colts on the first round." The Daily Oklahoman wrote on December 26, 1968 (NewsBank page 59): "Eddie Hinton of Oklahoma, a wingback, has received little acclaim outside the Big Eight area."
