Granville Liggins
1968 · Round 10 · Pick 256 · LB · Detroit Lions
Granville Liggins was born in Tulsa. At Oklahoma he played nose guard and also wrestled. In 1967 he was an NCAA All-American wrestler and a consensus football All-American, as well as UPI Lineman of the Year, and he finished seventh in the Heisman voting. He was key in the 26–24 upset of No. 2 Tennessee in the 1968 Orange Bowl, drawing double teams. Detroit drafted him in the 10th round, 256th overall, in 1968, but he didn't sign. He played in the CFL instead, for Calgary (1968–1972) and Toronto (1973–1978). Tidbit: in his autobiography, Rocky Bleier called him perhaps the fastest defensive lineman he faced in college. Pro Football Reference has no player page for him. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on February 1, 1968 (NewsBank page 25): "Oklahoma Sooner All-America middle guard Granville Liggins, bypassed through the first five rounds Tuesday, was finally chosen in the 10th round Wednesday by the Detroit Lions of the National Football League."
