Greg Pruitt
1973 · Round 2 · Pick 30 · RB · Cleveland Browns
Greg Pruitt was born in Houston and played at B. C. Elmore High School, where he stood 4 ft 4 in as a freshman and weighed only 165 lb as a senior. Oklahoma recruited him as a receiver, but Chuck Fairbanks moved him to running back when he installed the wishbone in 1970. In 1971 he led the Big Eight with 1,665 rushing yards and led the nation at 9.4 yards per carry. That included a 294-yard game against Kansas State and 216 yards against Texas. He was a unanimous All-American in 1971 and 1972, finished third in the Heisman voting in 1971 and second in 1972, and scored 41 touchdowns at OU. Cleveland drafted him in the second round, 30th overall, in 1973. He made five Pro Bowls, four with the Browns and one with the Los Angeles Raiders, and won Super Bowl XVIII with the Raiders. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999 and was in the first Browns Legends class in 2001. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on January 31, 1973 (NewsBank page 40): "Pruitt got word he'd been drafted by Cleveland and relaxed from the tension by playing a round of golf."
