Jack Jacobs
1942 · Round 2 · Pick 12 · B · Cleveland Rams
Jack "Indian Jack" Jacobs was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma, a citizen of the Muscogee Nation, and played at Muskogee High School. At Oklahoma he played quarterback, punter and defensive back. His 47.84-yard punting average in 1940 is still an OU record, and he also played baseball. The Cleveland Rams drafted him in the second round, 12th overall, in 1942. Around Army Air Force service he played for Cleveland (winning the 1945 title), Washington and Green Bay, leading the NFL in punting in 1947. With Winnipeg (1950–1954) he won the 1952 Jeff Nicklin Trophy, and in 1963 he became a charter member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. Note: Wikipedia gives conflicting death dates, January 12, 1974 in the infobox and January 13, 1967 in the text. The Daily Oklahoman's December 23, 1941 draft list (NewsBank page 16) lists "Jack Jacobs, Oklahoma, back" under Cleveland.
