Karl Baldischwiler
1978 · Round 7 · Pick 178 · T · Miami Dolphins
John Karl Baldischwiler was born on January 19, 1956, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and played at Okmulgee High School. He later called Okmulgee "a great town for young people in sports." He played offensive tackle on Oklahoma's 1974 and 1975 national title teams under Barry Switzer and was first-team All-Big Eight in 1977. Miami drafted him in the seventh round, 178th overall, in 1978, but he started his career with Detroit, where he was a starting left tackle (1978–1982). He then played for the Baltimore and Indianapolis Colts (1983–1986). Listed at 6 ft 5 in and 265 lb, he played nine NFL seasons, starting 100 of his 118 regular-season games, and retired after 1986. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on May 2, 1978 (NewsBank page 13): "Among the other possibilities at OU are defensive tackle David Hudgens, defensive backs Zac Henderson and Terry Peters and offensive lineman Karl Baldischwiler."
