Leon Crosswhite
1973 · Round 2 · Pick 44 · RB · Detroit Lions
Leon Crosswhite was born in Hennessey, Oklahoma. He was a running back in Oklahoma's wishbone from 1970 to 1973, part of the school's first wishbone backfield with Jack Mildren, Greg Pruitt and Roy Bell. He was second-team All-Big Eight in 1971 and first-team in 1972. Detroit drafted him in the second round, 44th overall, in 1973, and he played for the Lions in 1973 and 1974. He was traded to New England in 1975 but spent that season on injured reserve. His NFL totals are 79 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Note: Wikipedia's text says the 1972 draft and its infobox lists a 2026 death date. Both conflict with other details, so I've left them out of the bio. Pro Football Reference (PFR) lists him as Leon Mac Crosswhite: born April 28, 1951 in Hennessey, OK; high school Hennessey (OK); 6-2, 215 lb; position RB. PFR shows him with DET 1973-74 (21 games, 1 start, 1 Approximate Value). PFR stat line: 2 yrs: 23 rushes, 79 yds, 2 TD, long 9; 4 rec, 35 yds, 0 TD; 1 kick return for 11 yds; 1 fumble; 12 pts. PFR shows no Pro Bowl or All-Pro honors.
