Manuel Johnson

2009 · Round 7 · Pick 229 · WR · Dallas Cowboys

Manuel Johnson was born in Gilmer, Texas. At Gilmer High School he set school receiving records as a junior with 81 catches, 1,400 yards and 13 touchdowns. He moved to quarterback as a senior and threw for 4,098 yards and 48 touchdowns while leading Gilmer to a 14–0 season and its first state title. He also won state titles in the long jump and triple jump. At Oklahoma his best season was his last, when he started all 13 games and caught 42 passes for 714 yards and nine touchdowns despite a dislocated elbow. Dallas drafted him in the seventh round, 229th overall, in 2009. He was with the Cowboys through 2010 and caught one NFL pass, for 6 yards. He is retired. The Oklahoman wrote on September 3, 2008: "Among Bradford's 17 completions, seven went to Johnson, who finished with a career-high nine catches in all – two shy of the Oklahoma record for receptions in a game." The same article says: "Johnson closed the season with four grabs against West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl."
