R Mason Thomas

2026 · Round 2 · Pick 40 · EDGE · Kansas City Chiefs

R Mason Thomas was born in Pompano Beach, Florida, and starred at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, where he totaled 109 tackles and 19 sacks over his junior and senior seasons. He first committed to Iowa State before switching to Oklahoma. He was a reserve as a freshman (seven tackles, 0.5 sacks in 2022) and a sophomore (nine tackles, one sack), then broke out in 2024 with a three-sack game against Tulane that also included a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2024 and first-team All-SEC in 2025. Kansas City drafted him in the second round, 40th overall, in 2026, and he is active with the Chiefs; his Wikipedia infobox credits him with four tackles and a sack so far. Tidbit: the "R" in his name doesn't stand for anything. His mother's family had a tradition of R names, but she preferred Mason. His father, Harvey, played for Florida from 1988 to 1992. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio.
