Ryan Broyles
2012 · Round 2 · Pick 54 · WR · Detroit Lions
Ryan Broyles was born in Oklahoma City and starred in football, basketball and track at Norman High School, where he also made 20 interceptions as a defensive back. He was redshirted in 2007 after being arrested for trying to steal gasoline from a closed station. In his first game for Oklahoma in 2008 he set the school freshman record with 141 receiving yards. He was the 2009 Sun Bowl MVP and had 131 catches for 1,622 yards in 2010. He was a two-time consensus All-American (2010, 2011), and on October 15, 2011, against Kansas he broke the FBS career receptions record with his 317th catch. (Justin Hardy broke that record in 2014.) Detroit drafted him in the second round, 54th overall, in 2012, and he played three seasons for the Lions, totaling 32 catches, 420 yards and two touchdowns. He joined the XFL's Dallas Renegades in 2019 but retired before playing for them. Oklahoma City Examiner wrote on January 4, 2011: "That year, Ryan Broyles set an Oklahoma freshman record for receiving yards and tied for the most catches, finishing with 46 grabs for 687 yards."
