Samaje Perine
2017 · Round 4 · Pick 114 · RB · Washington Redskins
Samaje Perine was born in Jackson, Alabama, and moved to Pflugerville, Texas, where he starred in football and track at Hendrickson High School. He ran for 1,993 yards as a junior. As an Oklahoma freshman in 2014, he ran for 427 yards and five touchdowns against Kansas, which is still the FBS single-game record. He finished that season with 1,713 yards and 21 touchdowns and was named Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-American. He was first-team All-Big 12 in 2014 and 2015. Washington drafted him in the fourth round, 114th overall, in 2017. He has since played for Cincinnati (three stints), Miami, Denver and Kansas City, and he is active with the Bengals. His career totals are 2,304 rushing yards and 196 catches. Tidbit: the record he broke had been set by Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon only one week earlier. The Oklahoman (Web Edition) wrote on January 3, 2017: "Less than 12 hours after breaking Oklahoma's career rushing record, Sooners running back Samaje Perine made the announcement that he was heading to the NFL." Tulsa World wrote on September 30, 2014: "Killian coached Perine at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville, Texas, before sending him to OU."
