Tom Brahaney
1973 · Round 5 · Pick 109 · C · St. Louis Cardinals
Tom Brahaney was born in Midland, Texas, and played at Midland High School. He was Oklahoma's center in 1971 and 1972, a two-time consensus All-American and a two-time first-team All-Big Eight pick. In 1971 he anchored a wishbone offense that set an NCAA record at more than 472 rushing yards per game. Its only loss that year was 35–31 to eventual national champion Nebraska in the "Game of the Century." The St. Louis Cardinals drafted him in the fifth round, 109th overall, in 1973. He spent nine seasons with them (1973–1981) and played 134 games. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on January 31, 1973 (NewsBank page 40): "OU's all-American center, Tom Brahaney, went to St. Louis in the fifth round."
