Tony Casillas
1986 · Round 1 · Pick 2 · DT · Atlanta Falcons
Tony Casillas was born in Tulsa and was all-state at East Central High School. He is of Mexican and Cherokee descent. His OU career started badly: an ankle injury and mononucleosis cost him his redshirt-freshman season. He moved to nose guard in 1984 and was a consensus All-American that year. In 1985 he won the Lombardi Award (only the second Sooner to do so), was UPI Lineman of the Year and a consensus All-American, and helped win the national title. He was also an Academic All-American. Atlanta drafted him second overall in 1986. He made the PFWA All-Rookie Team and was second-team All-Pro in 1989. He won Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII with Dallas and finished with 768 tackles and 23 sacks. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2004. The Oklahoman wrote on January 3, 1982: "All eyes will be on Tony Casillas and Jeff Tupper, two outstanding freshmen specimens who are expected to receive hardship rulings after fall injuries." The Oklahoman wrote on July 13, 1985: "Just once, newlywed Tony Casillas would like to play football for Oklahoma State."
