Trent Smith

2003 · Round 7 · Pick 223 · TE · Baltimore Ravens

Trent Smith was born in Norman and played at Clinton High School in Clinton, Oklahoma. He was a tight end on Oklahoma's 2000 national title team. In 2001 he caught 61 passes for 564 yards and six touchdowns (second-team All-Big 12), and in 2002 he had 46 catches for five touchdowns (first-team All-Big 12). Baltimore drafted him in the seventh round, 223rd overall, in 2003, but injuries, including stints on injured reserve and the physically-unable-to-perform list, kept him off the field there. He caught three passes for San Francisco in 2005, then had 23 catches and three touchdowns for NFL Europe's Cologne Centurions in 2006. After football he founded Sooner Medical Staffing. Tidbit: he served on the Oklahoma State Board of Education from January 2021 to May 2023. The Oklahoman wrote on November 3, 2002: "Trent Smith has emerged as one of the top tight ends in the country and one of Oklahoma's most out-spoken players since joining the Sooners out of Clinton High School."
