Ethan Downs

Defensive end · Kansas City Chiefs · injured reserve · OU 2021-2024

Weatherford's two-way star and Osage Nation citizen chasing his Chiefs comeback

Ethan Downs was a do-everything star at Weatherford High School in western Oklahoma. As a running back he rushed for 1,194 yards and caught 56 passes for 982 yards. As a defensive end he piled up 203 tackles, 38 tackles for loss and 16 sacks.

He stayed home to play for Oklahoma (2021–2024). In his very first college game in 2021 he forced a fumble in a 76–0 win over Western Carolina. In 2022 he broke out with 38 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors, and he repeated as a second-team pick in 2023.

Downs went undrafted in 2025 and spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars before joining the Kansas City Chiefs, where he recorded his first NFL forced fumble. Unfortunately, on July 28, 2026, he tore his ACL in practice and was placed on injured reserve, ending his 2026 season. That is his status as of October 8, 2026.

Sooner fans know the motor this Weatherford kid plays with, so expect him to attack his rehab the same way.
