James Winchester

Long snapper · Kansas City Chiefs · active · OU 2008-2011

Three-time Super Bowl champion long snapper from Washington, Oklahoma

James Winchester was born in Washington, Oklahoma, and played high school football there before joining the Oklahoma Sooners, where he played from 2008 to 2011.

Long snappers rarely get headlines, but Winchester has built one of the most successful careers of any Sooner in the NFL. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2013 but was released in training camp. He didn't give up, and on March 13, 2015, the Kansas City Chiefs signed him.

He has been snapping for Kansas City ever since. Winchester has won three Super Bowls with the Chiefs (LIV, LVII and LVIII) and has even made a few big plays of his own, including forcing a fumble on a punt return against the Eagles in 2017 that set up a field goal. He re-signed with the Chiefs on a one-year deal on March 11, 2026.

As of October 8, 2026, Winchester is an active long snapper for the Chiefs, where his teammates include fellow Sooners Creed Humphrey and R Mason Thomas. More than a decade of steady snaps is a career worth celebrating.
