Record-setting Cal freshman now chasing his NFL shot with the Chiefs

Jaydn Ott was born in Chino, California, and grew up in Norco. He committed to Oregon as a high school freshman, spent his sophomore year at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, and then returned to Norco High School, where he rushed for 1,140 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior. He eventually signed with California.

At Cal (2022–2024) Ott was a star from the start. In his fourth college game he ran for 274 yards and three touchdowns against Arizona, the most ever by a Pac-12 freshman. He finished 2022 with 897 rushing yards and was named a Freshman All-American. As a sophomore in 2023 he led the Pac-12 with 1,315 rushing yards, scored 15 total touchdowns and earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors.

Ott transferred to Oklahoma for the 2025 season, where he served as a reserve running back and carried the ball 21 times.

He went undrafted in 2026 and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on May 1, 2026, joining an organization that already had several ex-Sooners. He was waived at final cuts on August 30 and re-signed to the practice squad the next day. As of October 8, 2026, Ott is on the Chiefs' practice squad, working to earn a spot on the active roster.
