Third alternate to Pro Bowl Games Offensive MVP
Baker Mayfield didn't make a Pro Bowl in his first five NFL seasons. His first came after his debut year in Tampa Bay in 2023, and it came from far down the list. He started as the NFC's third alternate at quarterback and was added when Dallas' Dak Prescott couldn't take part. That season he had set career highs with 4,044 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. He became the sixth quarterback to make a Pro Bowl as a Buccaneer.
He made the most of it. Mayfield won the Precision Passing final for the NFC, then went 9-of-13 for 102 yards and two touchdowns in flag football, one of them a 2-yard score to fellow Sooner CeeDee Lamb. He was named Offensive MVP of the 2024 Pro Bowl Games as the NFC won 64–59.
A year later he got in the same way. He was first alternate after the 2024 season, when he threw for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns. He was added in place of Washington's Jayden Daniels. That made him the first quarterback in Buccaneers history with more than one Pro Bowl selection.
Both of his selections came as a replacement. He has two, tied with Nik Bonitto, Marvin Mims Jr., Joe Mixon and Kyler Murray among the 14 ex-Sooners soonersblog.com follows. He's the only one of them with a Pro Bowl Games MVP.
