The expansion Bucs' first-ever draft pick, then six straight Pro Bowls and Canton
Lee Roy Selmon was the first player picked in the 1976 NFL draft and the first pick in the history of the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At Oklahoma he had played on the defensive line alongside his brothers Lucious and Dewey, won the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award in 1975, and helped the Sooners to national titles in 1974 and 1975.
His Pro Bowl run began after the 1979 season, when he was named the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-Pro. He went back every year after that through 1984, six straight selections, all with the Buccaneers. The 1984 season turned out to be his last in the NFL; he played nine seasons, all in Tampa Bay.
He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995, the first Hall of Famer to earn his credentials primarily in Tampa Bay. His six Pro Bowls are tied for third-most among former Sooners.
