Flanker / wide receiver · 6 selections · deceased · OU 1954-1956
Five straight Pro Bowls in Philadelphia, a sixth with the Rams, and a bust in Canton
Tommy McDonald was a halfback at Oklahoma, where he won the Maxwell Award in 1956 and never played in a losing game during the Sooners' 47-game winning streak. In the NFL he became a flanker, and he made the Pro Bowl in each of the five seasons from 1958 through 1962 with the Philadelphia Eagles.
He led the league in touchdown catches in 1958 and again in 1961, when he also led the NFL in receiving yards. In between, the Eagles won the 1960 NFL championship. After a season in Dallas, he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams and made his sixth and final Pro Bowl in 1965, with career highs of 67 catches and 1,036 yards.
OU's Pro Bowl page says McDonald made six Pro Bowls in its text, but its table lists only five and leaves out 1959. Pro-Football-Reference and Wikipedia both list 1959, so this page counts six. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998.
