Bedlam crossover who became WCWS Most Outstanding Player
Kelly Maxwell was born in Houston and pitched at Clear Springs High School in League City, Texas, where she was named the 2018 Galveston County Player of the Year after missing her junior season with an injury.
She spent four seasons at Oklahoma State. In her first career start in 2020 she threw a perfect game against Florida A&M, and a month later she no-hit Missouri State. In 2022 she struck out 313 batters, threw 12 shutouts, shared Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and was a unanimous first-team All-American. Her career rate of 10.6 strikeouts per seven innings is an Oklahoma State record.
For her final year of eligibility, Maxwell crossed Bedlam and transferred to Oklahoma in 2024. She went 23–2 and was 5–0 in the NCAA tournament. In the WCWS finals against Texas she pitched a one-hitter into the sixth inning of Game 1, then earned the save in Game 2 as the Sooners clinched their fourth straight national title. She was named WCWS Most Outstanding Player.
Maxwell pitched two seasons in Japan for Toyota Industries Shining Vega before the Portland Cascade made her the No. 1 pick in the 2026 AUSL allocation draft. With Team USA she has won gold at the 2025 World Games and the 2026 International Cup. As of October 8, 2026, she is a pitcher for the Cascade.
