On Wednesday night at Fenway Park, a Sooner is scheduled to take the hill. Jake Bennett, the left-hander who pitched for Oklahoma from 2020 to 2022, is listed as Boston’s starter against the Los Angeles Angels. It is the kind of line that used to live on a clubhouse dry-erase board in Norman and now lives on a major-league lineup card.

Bennett debuted on May 1. Teammate Wyatt Olds, who was in the same program a class earlier, debuted on August 17. Two Sooners in the same big-league bullpen-and-rotation mix is not an accident. It is what happens when a college staff keeps throwing arms into the draft until the math breaks.

Boston is in an American League wild-card conversation. The Angels are not. That is not the point. The point is the left-handed kid who once started SEC weekends is now starting a September game in the oldest park in the sport, with another Sooner in the same clubhouse waiting for a phone call from the bullpen.

If you are keeping a personal Sooner bingo card this week, Wednesday is the square.
